Whatchoo Talkin' 'bout Sketch-it?

If you go to UniqueDaily and check out today's listings you will find sketch-it. We're gaining notoriety but not too fast. We don't want to peak too soon. As a sure sign of that you will see that we are listed right under Gary Colemen.

I still don't know why he's not the governor of California.

Feanne Header

The new header graphic was created by Feanne. Her style is like nothing else I've seen. She's improving her representational skills here at sketch it. If you have a need for stylish and unique designs, ask for a sketch from her. She will not disappoint.

Friends in Berlin

Keep up the good work and ehrensenf.de absolutely rocks!

My Boys

Brothers Robbie and DylanFor Mr. Knowles.

How nice to see two brothers being kind to one another. Let this be a lesson to all of you in this crazy world. I'm sure they have had arguments in the past. They'll probably have a few more before finishing school. Still, that which unites them is stronger than that which divides them.

Feel the love.

Steffen... gwenanni.

Here's a sketch for Steffen! I started to mix around the syllables in my head with the name Gwen Steffani and... well, yea. How peculiar!

Original photo located here!

Her name is Sally!

Has anyone seen the movie Cars? I feel like this would essentially be Sally's cousin that she doesn't talk about much. My goodness... cars are difficult to draw.

Original photo of the wonderful car located here!

Dirk the Daring!

Has anyone played Dragon's Lair before? If you haven't, I suggest you go find your local arcade that plays old Laserdisc games like Space Ace and choke down $10 worth of quarters into it.

Original photo is located here!

Great Willi!

A sketch for Willi! It's not a whale. Sorry to disappoint.

Original photo of this strapping young lad here.

Americans have small brainsAn alle deutschsprachigen Besucher.

To all of our German speaking guests, we are sorry. When we created the special promotion for Ehrensenf viewers, our tiny American brains did not realize that there are others in the European Union that also enjoy some "Honour Mustard".

Please accept our deepest apology.

As a sign of humility, we at sketch-it are going to extend the special offer to all Ehrensenf viewers on the entire European continent! Don't wait. The offer is still set to expire at 23:59 GMT on Tuesday, 01 August, 2006.

Christoph!

Here we've got two sketches for Christoph! Man, with a name like that, I imagine he'd drive a car that had seventeen wheels and a penguin driver. Oh, and an ice cream maker in the back maintained by Takeshi Kaga (the host from the Japanese version of Iron Chef).

Original photo is located here.

I like that hat. Gimme.

Here we have a picture for Robert. Swanky hat, kid. I'd throw a pad of butter on the forehead of an old person for a hat like that.

Original photo located here.

Make a biiiig smile :D

Simon wanted a sketch of a photo he submitted.

He also wanted it to include a "biiiig smile."

Hope I got it big enough!

Markus

Markus requested a sketch from this photo. Here is the ball point pen sketch:

Um... a tiny button?

Hey guys, if you find this totally inappropriate, feel free to let me know and I'll delete the post right away. I just figured that it's an honor to be here with fellow artists, so I created an 88x31 button for the site. I dunno, it looks nice (I think) and I have it on my site. Feel free to use it!

Dos Cartoonas.

Original reference photos are located here. Ya heard?

Hee hee, I like cartoons.

Television = Honour Mustard = Ehrensenf

Ehrensenf is a jumble of the German word Fernsehen, meaning Television. By rearranging the letters they make the German word Ehrensenf meaning Honour Mustard. You know, those little packets of mustard you get at your favorite fast food restaurant.

It's like Rocketboom. Catchy name that has a new meaning all its own. I watched a few episodes of the program. Can't understand a thing the woman says but she talks about some cool things. Topics are often about web sites that are in English so it's all good.

Sketch-it Invades Germany

After firing up my email this afternoon and seeing 13 requests all coming from the same Country Coded Top Level Domain of .DE I wondered what was going on. Then I looked at the linkage to sketch-it and it all became clear. Ehrensenf Internet TV featured sketch-it in one of their segments.

I don't speak German but I have to assume that we got nothing but high praise considering the number of requests that have come in. The sketch has already been completed by WanderingPanda and you can view it here.

As a special thank you to our friends from Deutschland, sketch-it will make a special offer to all requests coming from the CC TLD of .DE. Buy a sketch from sketch-it, mention you saw the segment on Ehrensenf.de, and get a second sketch absolutely free. This offer is only good until 11:59pm GMT on Tuesday, 01Aug2006. Make sure you mention the segment on Ehrensenf.de and don't forget to request TWO sketches.

My Feet Itch!

Probably too much information regarding myself. Ha! Anyhoo, here's a sketch for Rainer Bender & Carola Haase-Sayer. You can check out the original photo over clickity here.

Hello

Feanne (new contributor) here.

Daily drawings (samples of my art) here.

Deviantart account (more samples of my art) here.

My designs on button badges (wear my art on your sleeve / shameless self-promotion) here.

As you can see... I'm not particularly good with non-abstract, representational-type drawing. Especially people-type drawings. But that's what most of the requests are about. So I'll try my best. I'm sure that the more I do it, the more I'll get better at it.

Please feed me with requests soon. :3

Limitations

To keep things fresh around here, in addition to posting sketches every day, we like to regularly change the Header Graphic. Sometimes it's not changed because we are not inspired to create a new one. Today inspiration struck.

I created this sketch while holding the pen in my mouth. Remember those stories on "Real People" and "That's Incredible"? They'd show a quadrapeligic person sketch a beautiful image by holding a pencil or paint brush in their mouths. Every now and then I wonder what would happen if I was paralyzed. Would I continue to create art?

The sketch took a long time. My jaw was very sore when I finished.

There was a man in my college comic book drawing class who was in a wheel chair. He had partial use of his hands. There was some sort of metal brace on his hands that he could use to grasp things by moving his arms a certain way. Once he had the pen he'd start drawing.

I'll have to dig up my old comic book the class created as part of their final for that class. It's somewhere in my office here.

Super. Yeah.

I would like a drawing of a man in a suit and tie ripping his shirt open. Under his shirt, is a camoflauge uniform. Sort of like Superman ripping his shirt open and you see the big "S". So yeah...

Self Portrait

Marc asked for a "self portrait" and then sent a pic along - so maybe he didn't mean that he wanted a picture of myself. At first I was flattered - then sadly disapointed. Oh well, I went ahead and drew the girl in the picture instead ;)

Hi folks! Just wanted to make my way in and introduce myself. My name's Alexander Shen, but most people call me Alex ('cept this one feller at work who calls me Xander). I've been drawin' since I was four (so that's about 18 years) and just pull styles from all over the place.

I'll be here, fulfilling sketch requests and having nothin' less than a great time doin' it. [grin]

You can check out my work over at www.wanderingpanda.com. Cheers, to ye!

Scottish Viking?

A viking in a kilt and running shoes?
and yes that's a beer in his hand.

Charlie rockin' the gap

Charlie here is the 400th post here on sketch-it. Not bad for a blog that's only been around since January. Keep the request coming. We're having lots of fun.

I am not sure if the "gap" referred to in Kalli's request is the Gap shirt Charlie is wearing or the gap in his teeth. You decide.

Father & Son

Kalli requested a sketch of a photo of a father and son on a beach. My quick ball-point pens scratches doesn't do the photo much justice (click the heading to be taken to the photo link), but I hope I captured some of its essence:

Father and Daughter

Phew this took me so long, I do apologize. I'll try to pick up the pace on my sketchings here. :) It's a father daughter moment..aww..:)

Don't Goooooo

A valuable person is leaving my neighborhood community. I hate to see her go but she is moving on to bigger and better things. She worked many, many, many, many long hours to make my neighborhood a better place.

Later today I will be attending a going away party for her and will present this drawing as a parting gift. It's a bit of an inside joke. Since it's the first time I've drawn a mummy, and since I have this neat-O web site called sketch-it, I figured I'd post it her for the world to see.

Cat on a hot tin roof...

Done in a short sweet couple minutes!! I hope ya like it... :)

Curt and Lisa

I sent you another pic to draw of Curt and Lisa. That's Curt Smith from Tears for Fears. Those are my pics so there's no worry about copyright crap!

If we get sued then we'll blame it all on Karen.

Chip & Friends

Chip and his friends in tahoe...

Hot Surfer Dude (Naked?)

Yup - that was the request.

Of course "Sketch-It" is a family friendly site, but the buyer should get what they want (or at least as close as our artistic abilities will allow.)

The unedited version went directly to the buyer, and the family friendly version is shown here (sorry ladies ;) )

Sketch in Progress

sketchin'Karen requested a sketch and I thought I'd use it for a little test. A while back someone suggested that we record our sketches in progress and post them here. That's just what I did.

The whole sketch took about 7 minutes to complete so I sped up the video so the whole thing takes little over 3 minutes.

In keeping with the creative commons spirit, I mixed the video with some music from Magnatune. The artist is Burning Babylon and the album is Knives To The Treble. I used track number 13, Dance Mi Dub.

If you'd like to see more video of artists sketching, just let us know.

Fancy Gentleman

I hope he's fancy enough for ya.

Jeep that is Atomic

version 1
version 2
Can you do it in a similar style to the Bill Head on your blog?

Not only can we do a similar style, because we are feeling extra nice we'll have the same artist that drew the Bill Head sketch draw your sketch. Don't get used to this sort of thing. Typically the next artist in the queue gets your request.

Because the artist was a little late in getting this request completed, he decided to create two versions. Also not normally part of the deal. But that's the beauty of things that come from sketch-it. We can add an extra flourish if we want to. We're artists. We're supposed to be nutty and unpredictable.

We set the expectation bar really low. One request + one dollar + one minute = one sketch. Anything beyond that is gravy. Such are the unexpected blessings in life. Covered in gravy I mean.

Guy & Dog

Mr.Thomas requested a sketch of a photo:

Mommy Kissing Son

Sarah requested a sketch of a photo of "Mommy kissing son", here's that pic"

16 in the queue

Yes, we have received your request. Yes, we are working on it right now. Well, in order that they have arrived. Usually it takes at most one week to get your sketch delivered to you right here on sketch-it.

Because of the Fourth of July Holiday and some last minute editing on my documentary I have been absent my administrative duties here at sketch-it. Well, I'm back now and will commence with the cranking out of sketches for you.

Thank you for your patience and your patronage.

Two Friends

I did this one quite some time ago, over and over again. Originally it had a hammock as well but I abandoned that as well as realism simply because everytime I drew the blond kind he looked like and old man....I need practice. So.....here it be Sketch number 10 I guess...archived and done
