Tonight I went to my DFL precinct caucus. Pictured right is Melanie, our caucus director person. I don't know what her official title was. I showed up twenty minutes late and missed the formal introductions.
It was very interesting to behold. There were lots of resolutions. People could speak in support of or in opposition against the resolution on the floor. All of the resolutions that passed get sent along to the DFL Senate District Convention and then on to the State Convention if they survive.
This is all about getting one's issues addressed. Say you want a law changed or a new area of focus, this is a good place to start. It takes a long time and there are people out there that don't want your agenda to progress. There are also some people that will support you and your ideas.
Now it's not required that you participate in representative democracy at this level. It's not even mandatory to vote. It may be boring to many of you. Still, it's the best way to go about making a positive impact on the world we live in.
